Out With The Old And In With The New

Out with the old...

And in with the new!

Bye bye isolettes!  Check out the big kids in their new cribs!  We had to do a double take when we walked in today - we thought we were in the wrong room.  I'd say they're pretty content in their new beds.

Anthony Wears Clothes for the First Time and Other Fun Stuff

Warning:  This is a long post, but there are lots of cute pictures so it's totally worth it :)
(Tip:  Click on the pictures for larger view)

Anthony and Aryanna have been progressing right along-it's hard to keep up with all their achievements!  Here's what they've been up to:

Anthony got to start wearing clothes on Saturday night!  Isn't he adorable?

Aryanna joined the 3 lb club like her brother last Friday!  (So cute in her friend Ellie's hat!)
They both got their first real baths on Saturday night (not just sponge baths).  We filled a storage container with water and bathed them in that right in their isolettes.  They laid in a little sling and we kept them swaddled up and just unwrapped the part we were washing.  THEY.LOVED.IT!
Ahhhh...that feels good!
Drying off - isn't she tiny?!
Not so sure about this...
Yeah, that's not so bad
Anthony got off the CPAP on Tuesday and now he's on Vapotherm (a lesser level of breathing support).  With that he also got a smaller feeding tube in his nose.  Here he is showing off his new gear!

Aryanna came off of Vapotherm yesterday and now has a nasal canula (wall oxygen).  This is the last step before breathing completely on her own!  Because she's on a lower pressure she gets to breast feed for a couple feedings every day now.  She still has the same prongs in her nose, but because she's cute here are a couple of pictures of her :)

Anthony hit the 4 lb mark last night!  Way to go big guy!

They got to play together some more this weekend.  Aren't they cute together?

Something tells me that they won't appreciate this picture much when they're teenagers!

Prayer Requests:
  • Keep praying for the swelling in Anthony's brain.  He had his 4th spinal tap within the last 2 weeks today.  He does seem to get relief from the taps, but pray that he wouldn't end up needing a shunt.  His brain scan on Monday was stable (he hasn't had new bleeding for quite a while and the swelling was about the same) so he won't have another scan for a couple of weeks.
  • Keep praying for both of their heart murmurs.  Our nurse yesterday said that Anthony's murmur is sounding better (yay!).  Continue to pray that it would close on its own.  Aryanna's murmur tends to open and close (which is normal for preemies).  Pray that it would also eventually stay closed on its own.
Thank you for all your prayers - with all of their improvements this week we can see that God is faithful!

Happy One Month Birthday (A Day Late)!

Anthony and Aryanna are one month old!  Actually, they were one month old yesterday.  I'm sure this is just the beginning of me getting behind on things with 2 infants to take care of.  Look how much they've changed and grown already!

The Preemie Dance: 2 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back

Around the NICU there's a dance called the Preemie Dance: 2 steps forward, 1 step back.  The weeks are filled with highs and lows, but we're starting to adjust to this new "normal."

2 Steps Forward

1.  Anthony got his PICC line out yesterday!  He's tolerating enough milk now that he doesn't need IV fluids anymore!  Way to go buddy!  Here he is right after he got it out (a little teary eyed-ripping off all that tape hurts, doesn't it?).

2.  Aryanna got off the CPAP yesterday and is now on Vapotherm (a lesser level of breathing support).  The Vapotherm is less bulky than the CPAP and with that came a smaller feeding tube in her nose instead of her mouth so now we can see more of that cute face!

1 Step Back

Anthony's brain scan today showed that some of the swelling was back so they did another spinal tap.  They were able to get 5.5 ml and he took it like a trooper, but we hate that our poor baby has to go through so much.  Here's our sweet boy resting after his procedure.
